Water Update

The Village of Forest received complaints of “salty” water in the public water system. It was discovered that the monitoring system for the softeners was not working correctly allowing for more salt to be introduced to the system. Artesian of Pioneer was contacted and parts to replace this have already been ordered. In the meantime, the Operator of Record has contacted the EPA for a plan of action due to the circumstances. The Village is still compliant with EPA regulations.

The plan of action is to bypass the softeners at the water plant. The softeners are where salt is added to decrease hardness in the water. Hydrant flushing will continue to help draw any salt out of the system. Once the system is flushed we will reset the softeners and flush them as well. We will continue to monitor the quality of the water and the goal is to return the water quality back to normal within a week. There are currently no known limits for salinity (salt) from the EPA.

The water is still safe to consume and use.
